As certified personal trainer, I've spent more than a decade working with people of all shapes and sizes, as well exercising regularly myself for over 15 years. I’ve lost count of the long hours and late nights spent reviewing the latest scientific research in the areas of diet and exercise. Over the years, I’ve learned what works and what doesn't.

You might think that with all this knowledge, I've always been in shape. But I haven't. Even though I've been working in the fitness industry for over a decade — and exercising regularly for almost 15 years — I'm a little embarrassed to admit that it wasn't until I was 27 years old that I finally got my act together.

Of course, I had made some progress by then. But it was far from impressive. It wasn't until I started setting goals and actually using the knowledge I had (I know that sounds like a bit of a cliché) that I started to see some results. To give myself an extra kick in the ass, I also entered the Body-for-LIFE contest (the one where you send in before-and-after photographs). When I first started this site, it was meant to serve as an unbiased and independent source of practical information and advice for a small group of my friends and clients. It's grown quickly, mainly by word-of-mouth (we've never spent any money on advertising). You were probably sent here by a friend or found us using a search engine (such as Google or Yahoo).

I just wish that somebody else had done it before

The Members-Only Area is a goldmine of information I wish that I had been able to find ten years ago! I know what it's like to spend hours in the gym, waste a fortune on food supplements and see little or nothing in the way of results. I understand how it feels to want to quit the whole exercise and diet "thing" because nothing seems to be working.

Let's face it. I'm a long, long way from being the best-built man in the world. There are plenty of guys around who are far leaner, fitter and stronger than I am. The answer to long-term weight loss doesn't lie in the latest short-term diet. As human beings, we can't win if we fight our perfectly natural desire for food. Depriving yourself of your favorite foods does nothing more than set you up for self-sabotage.
